After 15 years of church planting and pastoring in Japan, my wife Yuki and I - along with our kids Zion, Rhema, Rapha, Jireh and Kfir (yes 5!) - are stepping into the next adventure God has for us, pioneering a new church in the heart of the Gold Coast.

As an international family on the ride of a lifetime, we have a God-sized vision to start a fresh, new style church on the Gold Coast with a heart to reach families, students and internationals - helping them live a life to the full with Jesus.

Growing up in the backyard of south east Queensland, meeting Jesus as a student and moving to Japan after university - I had some big dreams.
What I discovered is that God's plans for us are far bigger  and better than we could ask or imagine.

Together Yuki and I are most passionate about seeing people enjoy life while stepping into their God-given potential - whether that's in family, business, sports or academics.

We are entrepreneurs at heart, and as well as pastoring at SOZO, we run several different business in Japan and Australia, and serve as the director of an international Christian school "Zoe International School" in Yokohama, Japan.

our name

σώζω sṓzō;

{Greek} from σῶς sōs; to save, deliver or protect; heal, preserve, save, do well, be made whole.
The greek word 'σώζω sṓzō' means 'to save or be made whole' and Jesus uses it many times in his teachings including including Luke 19:10 'for the son of man came to seek and to save the lost'.
We feel that that ’sozo’ is a perfect match our heart & vision of not just 'doing church' on Sundays, but 'being the church' - using our lives to make a tangible difference in our communities.

想像 sōzō;

{Japanese} from the kanji for image or idea; to dream or imagine; see things from your heart as though they will happen.
'想像 sōzō' is also the Japanese word for 'imagine' from Ephesians 3:20 ’now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us'.
Our family is 6/7ths Japanese - we love that ’sozo’ represents the history and deep connection we have to Japan as well as our future dreams and plans for the land of the rising sun.

our beliefs

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. The Holy Spirit inspired the writers of the Old and New Testaments pointing to Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and co-eternal.

We believe that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to redeem all of mankind. Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life on this earth, performed many undeniable miracles, was crucified for our sins, buried and was raised from the dead for our justification. By the name of Jesus Christ, and His name only, can mankind be saved. Jesus Christ sits at the Right Hand of the Father and will return personally in power and glory to receive His Church unto Himself.

We believe that mankind is sinful by nature and will perish without the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ as revealed in His Gospel. That God wishes that no one should perish, but that all would come to this saving knowledge through the preaching of the Gospel to a lost and hopeless world.

We believe that matrimony is a holy monogamous marriage between one man and one woman. This means that man and woman are two distinct genders willed by God their Creator in their respective beings, which reflect the image and nature of God.

We believe in the multi-faceted work of the Holy Spirit to bring conviction of sin, revelation of the truth of the Gospel of Christ, drawing of the sinner to God, adoption of mankind into the Body of Christ through regeneration, and the distribution and administration of the Gifts and Fruit of the Holy Spirit in the believer’s life. Jesus Christ is the “baptizer with the Holy Spirit” for the empowerment of the Church through the Baptism with the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the local church as a place where believers gather together for edification, teaching from the Word of God, and ministry to and through each other according to their spiritual gift. The local church provides identity to its members as well as encouragement, interdependence, fellowship, correction, and discipline.
